Hewey, thanks for posting. You were definately born in the wrong era.
Funny thing is I know a lot of the guys in the photos( and the ones on the the website) Some of the info is wrong eg. the one with the Dodge sedan (with all the mals) is actually taken in Cronulla, just up from what used to be Ma's milkbar( not the one in the photo, Ma's was to the left of that shot, just beside the old fire station) on Gerrale St.
The soft top Angleiron, belonged to a guy who is now a well known artist and surf photographer, Gary Birdsall. (then known as "birdshit")
The photo with the "Highway Cafe" ( great toasted cheese sangers :) ) was at either( oldtimers is creeping in) the Sandon Point turn off or at Bellambie,( Wollongong suburbs), on the Prince's Highway
The guys sitting on the bonnet of the '46( I think I've got this right) are from l -r Johnny Coleman, Ray Wilkenson(maybe, jury's still out on this one), Yance Moller, Nigel Dwyer, Bob Aires.
I think the photo with the '60 Belair was taken at Quibray Bay ( Kurnell). We used to use that area a lot, to "freeboard",and from memory, to race motor bikes.
The Chev was probably Nigel Dwyer's, (not driving in that photo), who used to work for Jackson Surfboards, before he went to New Zealand.
There's one photo on their website thats attributed to Bobby Brown (layback, 2nd photo of Bob.) that I'm fairly sure isn't Bobby. Grew up, went to school and surfed with Bob, before he was tragically killed in a "glassing" incident, in the 1960's,( who said it's a new phenomena) at the "new" Taren Point pub. :(
Ah well, just some more of the 2 bobs worth. :D

Air con and a CD player??? To get the feel, wind down the windows, turn the 1/4 windows around( to vent the air in ) and crank up the AM radio.

Took the work car, been getting in trouble for not clocking up enough kms (Im supposed to do a minimum mileage each year), and its free petrol to boot! Plus it handles pretty good, so it was great fun to chuck into the twisty stuff on the way home via Wisemans ferry. Plus being a wagon it carried the thatch we bought for our tiki bar with ease  The other problem is the quarter vents on the EK don’t stay open (need to tighten them up), so you need to hold them open manually as you drive

It's OK, I'm not really from Sydney, I just moved there, but now I'm back in Perth so I'm normal again.

It's pretty rugged, I copied a whole lot of old 1970's slides using a cheap converter, and this one was a half frame 35mm one just to make it worse. The pic however, pretty much says it all about my lifestyle in the late 70s. The old XR Falcon 'Anna' was her name. (Deb had a 2 litre Escort, and I bought a Falcon, so we had 'A Escort anna Falcon' Guess you had to be there eh...)

We fitted Austin 1800 front bucket seats, side and back window curtains, a cut down Clarks rubber mattress, a radio, and patched up the rust with nespaper and bog, then drove her everywhere, roads or not. As long as there was surf at the end, that's where we went.

In this pic, the beach is right in front of the bonnet, the tree marked the track.

Sometimes I really wish life could be that uncomplicated for both of us, just one more time...

Cheers, Glen.

This slide convertor thingo youve got...do you just chuck your slides in it and they get copied to your computer?

Id love a link and/or some more details please.

Im really loving these old pics...

OK, slide converter...

Looks like this.

I borrowed mine, and you can pick them up at Aldi supermarkets sometimes for about $70. They plug into the computer USB port and you load slides into them one at a time. The software 'captures' the image off the slide and stores it in the computer, where you can then photoshop the image etc.

My ex-wife has apparently had a change of heart about our slide collection, and is sorting through them for the car pics to give to me... Here's hoping!

Cheers, Glen.

Catherine Hill Bay!!!

One of our favourite camping spots in the 70's. We'd park the Falcon next to our friends' HQ panelvan with about 3m of open ground between them. We'd stretch a tarp between the roofracks on both cars and use the shaded area for cooking and relaxing, while we slept in the wagons. No toilets, no running water. You crapped in the bush and brushed your teeth with water from a bottle. The girls used to whinge about the 'bush' toilet so we'd have to drive them back out to the main road and find a servo for them to use.

Great times! You could always get a surf at the bay, even if the rest of the coast was dead flat. Some of the best surf I've ever had was there.

Cheers, Glen.
