Quick question: correct thermostat?

Post by Outffocus »

Hi,

I'm running a 383 Chev pushing out around 450 -500 hp. It's in a Cadillac and I'm running an alloy radiator with twin thermos.

I need to purchase a thermostat for it, what temp setting should I be looking to buy?

Cheers,
Greg

No quick answer for a quick question Greg .  .
I had a look at US sites for that same question . Just "Google" 383 Thermostat. Discussed on a few forums . Some suggest 195 , reading more on that one ,it appears to be for fuel injected engines ,related to state smog/emission issues . Some recommend 160 , but most appear to favour 180 degrees .

Cheers Frank!
I'll check out your info. I was leaning towards 160 or 180.

I was told by a radiator guru to always use a middle of the temp range thermostat where ever possible, the hotter you go the slower the recovery time, depending on radiator & fan combination of course
Cheers,
Terry

That's going straight to the pool room!
