Re: Buick V6?
They are basically the same engine as the 3800 from later model GM cars internally. The block is different, the bell housing bolt pattern is the BOP pattern, same as Buick, Olds and Pontiac V8 engines. Internal parts are a mix, pistons are the same as first gen 3800, but connecting rods are different. The only chronic problem was the timing chains breaking at about 80,000 miles. They share most internal parts with the old Buick 300 ci V8.
I have a 300 ci Buick V8 with the Turbo V6 pistons in it, and had a cam ground with the Turbo V6 profile, with a turbo on it.

Re: Buick V6?
Is a better timing chain available? And they have odd and even fire, what are the pros and cons? Is there a model that is better than others? I have been trying google but not finding much.

There are several aftermarket timing chains that are better, Cloyes is one. Even fires shake less, and sound better in my opinion.

Re: Buick V6?
I have one in my '30 A pickup. Put it in as a secondhand engine that was okay for a few years but suffered the stretched timing chain thing eventually so had it rebuilt. Now goes real good. Has Commodore valves (larger) in the heads and it is a high port even fire engine - the best of the Buick versions. I think High port heads were introduced about 76 or 78, just gives the exhaust gas a smoother flow into the exhaust manifolds. Like most V6s they idle a bit rough but it really sings at freeway speeds and is very economical. Mine is about '80 model, the last of the carburettor versions. The engine was rebuilt by M&W in Ballarat.

Re: Buick V6?
hi I also had a V6 Buick powered Model A for 36 years ....I have a spare engine which needs assembly and also have a B&M forced induction supercharger still in the box ....the other spare eng and gearbox I had went with the car when I sold it ......they do go good if you run the right diff ratio.....tall tyres come into play .....no firewall mods are required so plenty of room in coupe/roadster....
