The Malt Vinegar looks great for bits that you can take off and fit in a bucket but I am looking for something that can do the whole chassi, diff and engine. I bought a car thats spend 30 years in a paddock.

you can get small containers of citric acid at supermarkets. i brought some at my local iga, i think its about $3 a little container. (about the size of a pill bottle). its in the cooking section. i suppose 5 containers would do about 20 litres of water?

yeah i would need enough to make a 1000 litres so dont think the little supermarket packets would do .. its used a lot in wine industry and things like bath bombs etc but cant find a local supply may have to head to melbourne for some, but looking at molassaas theads it seem to work a treat too .. anyone compared the 2 ?

Hi As stated early in the thread I can get the stuff for ya but I need a few to order so I can get at a good price as one 25kg bag is double the price than 25kg bags when ordered 5 at a time. I have a mate that goes to melb from Mt Gambier every two weeks so can get it dropped off for u. Any takers for a bag or two????

Hey All, i have read in other threads that when stripping rust with molasses that any part sticking out of solution will get eaten away at the point it protrudes so you need to coat it in vasaline or the like.
My question is does that hapen with citric acid solution as well????

I'm gonna have a go at this.
Bought some flakes from Coles...used 2/3 of one in a 2.5L container.
Used the dremel + wire brush att to get most of the scunge off. So now it soaks. I'll see how we go tomorrow.
