Tassie 41 Coupe. Where ????

Post by rx4ord »

There was a coupe built here in Tassie by Ron Sushames near Latrobe.
When I saw it the first time about 40 years ago I could not honestly work out what it was.
It had the nickname SLOB. Why we don't know.
Was chopped and channeled.
Got sold locally and then we think it went to Calvin Pope.
Also heard that Ancient Colin may have had a hand in turning it into
a really cool car.

Would love to hear where it is and any true stories about it.

Thanks Scott.

Now where is all the info from the mainland people who
must know something.

It can't have disappeared because it was a very distinctive car and
a bit rare as well.

Calvin Pope had it featured in ASR Mar/April 1984 issue #35 (and on the cover) and was sold to Chris Cooke, one of the then VHRA directors. Chris had it for a while and sold it, but I can't recall who he sold it to.

That car was featured in an early Custom Rodder magazine and I think it was black then.........I then remember seeing it at the first Mildura Nationals in 1981, black, low and nice and whoever owned it told me that it was indeed the ex Tassie car...I have a couple of colour pics somewhere..........I too am curious as to where it ended up..........andyd

I had it in the back of my memory that it got changed to dark purple and I guy I knew in the Western suburbs of Melbourne had it for a while. Just had a chat with a mate out west and he thinks it went to the Melb Eastern suburbs. Pretty sure I have seen pics of it in one of the Aussie mags over the years, but there are a few year's worth to go thru.

Thanks Des and Andy.
More news the better.
When I get over there later in the year I might try and find it. Take
pics and write some more of it's history.

Had a look on the HAMB Andy. Great stuff.
Thanks.

When I was in living in Devonport, the Dad of one of my mates knew Ron and had pics of both of them with the car, he was always going to dig them out n show me. I left before it seeing them and it would be pretty slim chance now that I could even find my mate!

I think it got some video footage on "Street Legal" or one of the other Hot Rod videos that were released back in the 80's. I've got copies of a couple but the quality ain't the best.

I'll keep plugging along with the questions.
I have faith that someone will have more answers and will know
where it currently lives.
