Re: This followed me home
A little bit more progress on the door . I needed a metal folder so instead of trying to buy one that would bend over a metre length I thought I would have a go at making one . While not giving a sharp bend over the full length it gives a good enough bend for what I need . I have since folded up the inner top of the door , the rear side panel with the door lock installed and made the return edge for the door skin mount . I still have to get the right shaped curve in the lower 100 mm as I have nothing to go on
when are you going to finish it?

Re: This followed me home
Update for the week , shaped up the front door frame section and the outer top of the door which is now a straight finish to match the new glass ( wood ) .I also installed the caprice intrusion bar while I was at it . Just the lower section to make and that should be it for the frame
Lenny keeping an eye on proceedings
Intrusion bar in , will be welded in later
The top will be trimmed once the skin is in position
A quick mock up
Bought one of these from Aldi , cheap enough to learn on and was spending a small fortune on grinding blades

Nice blending with the door [old and new technology] . I got one of those Aldi Plasma cutters a few years back on a previous sale ,different brand. Works a treat cuts up to 10mm. As for cut off discs. When the Wantirna Trash,n Treasure is operating I get my discs from a Chinese bloke who is a regular selling tools and hardware, he has discs in packs ,something like $10 for 20 or 25. of the small size. Both sizes for my angle grinders, and flap discs at a fraction of Bunnings prices.

Very nice fab work their mate.
Takes a lot of nutting out and time to get it all to run smoothly.

Re: This followed me home
I found smith & arrow on eBay to be fairly cheap for cutting/sanding discs, even have roloc discs for small air sanders. Good tip with plasma cutting is to leave a little on & sand/file back to a clean edge for welding. Great looking work on the doors etc, the plasma will make it so much easier to cut steel.

My old plasma cutter has a filter for the compressor air that uses a toilet roll, not as much fun now sourcing replacements as in the past you had to wrestle them away from other shoppers

Re: This followed me home
I have had a 2 week break from working on the ute due to some shutdown rail work and swapping engines in Jets commodore which came about by low oil , water and high revs resulting in a spun bearing
This week I finished off the rear pillar and latch , which is a combo of old and new metal and have left it a little bit longer than needed for now . The sides aren’t fixed to this as yet . I want to get the door areas finished such as hinged properly so this means some rust removal and repair first before strengthening and rebuilding the front pillar
I am trying to make things a little bit longer than needed as I don’t have a finishing line from here to the rear quarter panel as yet

Smart thinking Peter but what else would I expect from you.
