Hey guys. Im interested in 'The Thing', a twin grey motor powered drag car, from the '60s? Apparently it was run at the salt and Castlereagh back in the day. Ive been told its been featured in some old rod mags, I'd love to see them.

Thanks in advance :D

By 'the salt' you mean Lake Gairdner?

That means it was in the last 15 years or so. Have you tried www.dlra.org.au?

Or give Rod Hadfield a call, he would know about it if it has run at the salt.

I have some pics of it somewhere, it's now in the hands of a speedway car /drag car collector in nsw.

I actually think there were pics of it on here last year sometime, cos it was via this board I got in contact with the owner :)

I don't recall it being used on the salt at all tho' :?:

I assume this is the one you are talking about?

also from Larry
I can shed some light on The Thing. I drag raced against this car at Calder in 1970 in my A bucket. It had two grey motors, one driving a diff in the rear and the other facing the other way and driving a diff (Land Drover I think), in the front. The owner builder I believe came from Deniliquin in southern NSW and had great trouble getting the two drive lines to operate in synch. The thing would get under way and then suddenly want to swap ends in the middle of a run. As I recall the owner struggled with it for a few meets and then gave up on it. It looks like it has sat in a shed ever since.
