Project 56 F100

Post by heven67 »

Hi Guys
Ive beeb lurking in the background for a while doing alot of reading about front end converions using Mitsi and Jag and holden and even the EL falcon conversion front ends as a substitutes for the original axel front end on my 56 F100.
I must say the info I have gathered so far has been great and I am looking to select a front end which will give me a nice ride up front.
Currently the vechile has the drop axel and leaf spring setup but is in LHD and I want to convert it,
So a few questions about whats what!
Mitsi front.....L300 front, what year model is the better?
I would like to put the steering rack at the front cause to what Ive seen (ie EL Falcon) the rack at the back gets in the way of the exhaust manifold and the steerin colum has to run through the floor, so at the front I can run the colum through the upper firewall.
Whats a L200? what car are they on? I noticed some saying these stubs have the steering arms facing forward as I need and If I turn the stubs around on the L300 the Ackerman angle is incorrect, I see some say to heat and bend the arms into the correct position, this is something I would only do if the engineer gives me the blessing to do.
So at this stage I havent even started pulling it apart until I have a good idea what way i want to go and then I will chat to the engineer and see what he wants.
No I dont have an engineer yet.
I thank you in advance for any help I can get.
Cheers Hev

Why stuff around with an l300 when you have to change all sorts of bits on it to make it work , by far the best choice of f/e for a 53 - 56 effie is the jag f/e .
Even the yanks are now catching on and doing jag f/ends instead of their mustang II jobs

Look for series 2 or series 3 XJ6 or XJ12, Jag or Daimler. These have the ventialted discs. Should be able to get a whole unit for around $400 or less!

Yep
L300=lots of mods, hard to fit=headaches
Jag=no mods, easy to fit=happy camper
Trust me, I've been there, won't even contemplate an L300 in an F1 again

Jag for sure. Finished one not long ago for a customer, Fairly easy fit and not wheel/ guard clearance issues. The only problem now is his mr's wants to drive it    :D :D :D

Thanks guys...it looks like a Jag front then ..hey?
I seen a 55 with a falcon front and its too busy for me, and the fabrication was enormous..as well as ordinary welding, I figured "NO Falcon front for me"

Know a fellow who put a Jag F/E in his 56 F100 and kept it LHD, just used a LHD US rack. Easy. Saved mucking around with the dash. :D
