Not everything was cool at the Nats that year. I recall standing near a parked dark green 34 sedan in the Narrandera main street watching the night-time street parade. There was a woman driving as her husband was more pissed that she was, she took off in reverse out of the angle park and turned left but didn't stop, she backed into the crowd right next to me and broke this poor buggers leg. She got out then decided to drive off before the cops arrived. It was all hushed up but it certainly left a bad impression on a lot of the spectators. My other memories of the Nats are fantastic and I am pleased that this kind of stupidity is seldom seen these days.
