Melb. Hot Rod Show
listed on ebay at the moment is a bunch of old Hot Rod Show programs -
now - one of these is for the 5th Melbourne one in 1969; another is for the 14th in 1979.
I always thought that the show was not held one year in the 1970's; cos otherwise it would be the 15th show...

Re: Melb. Hot Rod Show
Dear Accountant
My Excell tells me -
5 1969
6 1970
7 1971
8 1972
9 1973
10 1974
11 1975
12 1976
13 1977
14 1978
15 1979
And therefore IF the 1979 show was the 14th then they missed one year ...
PS As an accountant I tried doing it with my fingers and toes first ...
Cheers

Gary
The missing show was either 1970, 71, 72 or 73.
I have posters and stickers on my shed wall dating from 1974 and that was the 9th, and I have each show poster/sticker since then except the 1978 sticker. Might dig into the boxes a bit more to see if I find any more.
Cheers, Des

Re: Melb. Hot Rod Show
My first show was 1976.... although I was born 9 months after the 1975 show
I know they haven't missed one after that so I agree it was an early one. Will have to ask dad. Carps would probably know of the top of his head, though.

Re: Melb. Hot Rod Show
Had a look through some old Custom Rodders, figuring Eddie would have covered each show.
Issue #7 Apr-May-Jun '69 has coverage of the 1969 show "Show Time Melbourne"
Issue #10 1970, has coverage of the 1970 show "1970 Melbourne Hot Rod Show"
Issue # 12 1971, has coverage of the "6th National Hot Rod & Custom Show"
Issue # 14 Mar-May 1972 "1972 Melbourne Hot Rod Show"
I have all 1973 issues except issue #20, which would have been around Dec 1973. No show coverage in the other 1973 issues, so that might be the year. Anyone got #20 handy to check on it?
Interesting that Eddie has called them the Melbourne rather than Victorian shown (same as Gary), except the 1971 show is listed as the National show - and the 6th is out of kilter with the other numbering.
So was the 1971 National show a replacemnt for the Victorian Show?, or was 1973 the missing year??
Peter or Vonfat might have something in the VHRA archives?
Cheers, Des

No Melbourne Show in issue #20 C.R. There is a vic show in there- the Wattle Festival Show in Maryborough.
