Model A Tourer Build
Well in the interest of getting more content on this forum I thought I would start a build thread on
my A Tourer that I have started
I mentioned to someone that I was looking for an open car cowl and doors and he told me about a complete car his father had just decided to sell, price was discussed and I awaited some photos.
These are what I received
Upon seeing these photos, a deal was done and a trailer hired and off we went to pick it up.
Here it is on the way home
Home in the factory,
We thought we would see if it would still run after sitting around for about 30 years, and what would you know away it went running on engine start, until the fuel injection system caught fire
Then it was time to make some decisions on what style or theme I was going to build it. So first was to remove the body from the original chassis, the car was in pretty good condition considering it’s age, as this was happening I came to the conclusion that it had taken 87 years to look this good, so a decision was made, but first it was time to pull it apart
I will post some more soon

Re: Model A Tourer Build
I had already had a chassis started before I got the tourer, so the old one with the complete running gear was delivered to its new owner,
The original chassis that I had for a few years was boxed and fitted with a new front crossmember, then the rear was pinched in and kicked up 3” on the top, with a 4” clearance on the bottom, and a rear 50 x 50 tube put in place to hold the rear rails apart until the rear end gets the final design drawn up to suit a narrowed jag rear end
The Jag rear awaiting to get shortened 7” down to 54” wide
More to come

Hi Pete, that body sure looks in good condition. Not many left like that. That will certainly be a nice ride with the jag rear. Going back to the old days. The LS is a good idea. Plenty of power and smooth transmission without any effort. Keep the pics coming they help with passing the time Regards Steve.

Re: Model A Tourer Build
You probably already know this but I will put it here for everyone's benefit. An Aussie Model A tourer body like this can be mounted straight up to an American steel body frame as made by Brookville. It is a direct replacement for the original wooden frame. My cousin did this with a restored one and said it was very easy.

Re: Model A Tourer Build
Peter, I look forward to your progress.
I love tourers.
I was going to do a 27 Dodge tourer but decided against it as I am allergic to bee stings (anaphylaxis).
The risk of being struck by a bee on the highway was too great.
Good luck with your build.
Mick.

Mick, allergic to bees? Surely not all of them...

No problem sidepipe there will be some updates coming on the Angria real soon, and I will get this one up to date soon as well, thanxsidepipe wrote:THANK YOU Peter for taking the time to post your projects .. Eagerly await updates on the tub and anglia .. Cheers sidepipe ..
Hi Steve it was a pretty good find, and the LS1 fell into my lap for the right price, so I figured why not, I will be making my own independent front end to go with the jag rear, so hopefully it will ride like a sports car.hotrodsteve wrote:Hi Pete, that body sure looks in good condition. I hope you are taking it easy, get well soon
Hi Larry I did know that and have done it a few times I was lucky enough to have a floor frame left over from a channelled A tudor build, they are the sameLarry@Graffiti wrote:You probably already know this but I will put it here for everyone's benefit. Thanx Mick I have a soft spot for tourers as well, that allergy doesn't not sound good, I hope things are going well in your world, thanx for looking in.Mopar Mick wrote:Peter, I look forward to your progress.
