If you're not familiar with Engineered to Slide, the guy behind it is most well known for his home built Hilux drift ute. Nah not my taste either, but amazing craftmanship for something built in a home shed  More pics here http://engineeredtoslide.com/2016/02/et ... 00-photos/

Some great, great pics there Huey. Having been to the Reunion at Bakersfield you brought back all the emotions of being there. It is really like being back in the golden era of drag racing.
I actually sat and had a quiet one on one chat with Don Garlits while there in the pits. I had to pinch myself later.
Also had a brief one way chat with TV Tommy Ivo, who nodded and smiled politely. I thought he couldn't understand my accent till his Manager told me he's stone deaf !! :D
You have a marvelous talent for capturing the artistic beauty of brutish competition machinery. Did you stay for the Cackle Fest ?
Cheers.

I guess a lot of aussies have been to these places, as have I, I have been to galpin auto sports, hotrod reunion, NHRA museum and Peterson museum (and many others)they are all fantastic and individual in there own way of recording automotive history, but I would say my favorite was hotrod reunion at Bakersfield it is one of the best spectacles of early drag racing and hotrods you can see, If you get the chance take the trip you wont regret it.

Absolutely agree chev34.
The whole Bakersfield thing is like a step back into the golden era of drag racing. Like stepping back into the pages of Hot Rod magazine in the sixties and seventies. To see the actual cars and drivers that raced back then is amazing.
The Hot Rod Reunion at Bakersfield is a history live and kicking - sights, smells, sounds, the lot.....and for US$100 you can sit in a running front engine Top Fueler.
Some observations: You can meet and speak to the biggest names of the day (Garlits, Ivo, etc.). The whole vibe is tribal, everyone is friendly and into it. The car park is as interesting as the pit area.
( Well this is America, after all). The swap meet covers everything from rollers to parts to complete cars and covers acres. The racing is fair dinkum. And the Cackle fest.... 8)
Hey, I just talked myself into going again. :D
