need to fit new door latch to the 36 , thoughts

Post by wandiharry »

G'day crew
for rego purpose I need to fit new door latches to my 36 ford.
I know there are a few options with bear claws or finding a late model latch and adapting.
From what I can can gather the actual latch is just one cost then I think I will need bell cranks ,connector kits .
Or I go for something like this
https://triquemfg.com/collections/altma ... easy-latch
Anyone done these kits?

Unless they've changed the rules again, your original door latches are still legal and there's no good reason to change them.

Originals are ok in WA as long as the double catch is ok. I’ve just rebuilt my 38 with all original latches and don’t envisage any problems with rego. As a side I have also fitted a couple of sets of the Altman easy latch and just for once a bolt on aftermarket article did bolt on and worked very well. I would leave the stockies.Steve.

My engineer says its a new requirement , no double ramp latches so I reckon I will go with the Altman latch and weld it in.
Will post some photos if I can ever work out how to post photos

...and they have, just recieved a long message from Peter Koning advising that Vicroads have decided that bear claw etc latches must now be used.....
