Rambler Hornet rear axle
Anyone ever played with a Rambler Hornet rear axle?..........a mates just purchased a rod that supposedly has a Rambler Hornet rear end..........whats there is a tapered axle Salisbury style rear axle with a tin rear cover that has 10-12 bolts holding it on, the brake drums appear to have a dust cover or extension around the outer edge of the brake drum that extends back almost to be level with the outer edge of the backing plate......he's never played with a tapered rear axle tho' I have a puller if need be........it seems to be working o/k just curious if anyone has had experience with these tho' it does have oil leaks so the outer seals are kapput...........sorry no pics and I can't post here even if I had some.........lol........Andy Douglas

Re: Rambler Hornet rear axle
Most likely an AMC model 20. 8.75" ring gear, lots of ratios available. It uses a Traction lock LSD. Two piece axles with 29 splines. The axles and axle tubes are the weak point. It was used until 1986 on Jeeps.
People who think they know it all, bother those of us that do.
