Re: Electric steering
Hi Monte, do I believe, Hyundai, Mazda and Toyota do.
My kiwi mate fitted a Suzuki van one into his dads Bedford van so his dad could drive it for a couple more years.

Re: Electric steering
Theres videos on youtube showing how to fit Astra electric power steering pumps. They seem to be the most popular one to use.

I've got one out of an Astra, but haven't fitted it yet.
The handle on your recliner does not qualify as an exersize machine,

Re: Electric steering
There are 2 electric systems, the electric assist rack, as in Hyundia Elantra, which is an easy fit (no hydraulics), and the electric power steering pump, as fitted to the Astra, which is an electrically driven hydraulic pump which drives the standard hydraulic power steering system. The Astra pumps draw a heap of current, so you need to have a suitably rated supply for them . This electric pump system is handy if you have to push the car without the motor running, especially if it is a big tank.

There are 3 systems and this one is easy peasy.

Try here.

This is similar to what I fitted to my 33 Ford Pickup.
Works good but not cheap. I actually mounted it to my pedal box, works a treet.

Crikey that's not cheap.
I have a Rover one with ECU and the electronic kit to make it all work, fully variable, for less
than $300.

Re: Electric steering
I have a shortened Commodore manual rack fitted to the car and I was thinking that I could fit the later HQ steering arms to give me less turns from lock to lock but it would make the steering heavier to turn so this is why I wanted info on the power steering column .I talked to the TAC blokes up here and they said it would be ok to run the later HQ steering arms as it has been done before

Re: Electric steering
Hi Monte, not many more sleeps to go..
If you use the "HQ" steering arms, the power steering arms are shorter, this will also ensure full steering lock. Also the "HQ" steering arm has a different Tie rod taper to commodore tie rod, But if you use 244 or 242 series Volvo tie rods, they are same taper as HQ & will screw onto the commodore rack.
.
You probably already know this, just thought I'd remind you.
Cheers Rob, hope to see you at Easter time.

Re: Electric steering
Hi Angry, I've had quite a few Gemini in my time (rear wheel drive), but I have not heard of them having power steering as they are rack & pinion.
Maybe your are getting confused with another brand.
Cheers Rob
