VS rear suspension?
Hi, I seen a build using a VS Commodore IRS. It seems a good option. Anyone have any experience using/fitting one?

Re: VS rear suspension?
Think youll find VR/VS IRS has too much toe in on suspension travel, n chops rear tires out...
Much better going with later model like Post VX and later have a toe link that stops the rear wheels toeing in n chopping tires out......I know a guy who ha s a VE IRS under his pickup ...

Or you could do research like I just did.
Have a look here https://www.superspares.com.au/camber-t ... -holden-co
Stuff can be adjusted and it works.

I had a look at the later units and they would work better. But there bulky compared to the VS unit. I like the idea of the early unit with a kit fitted.

Yeah we put one in a Dodge pickup (in the Lone Star thread). I had one a VZ family hack for 10 years too.
I wasn't a huge fan of them and would prefer a live axle.
A pretty important point is what do you want to put it in ?

I am doing a chanelled pickup, based on a 1922 Dodge chassis. Just after something different and not a fan of 4-bar setup.

Re: VS rear suspension?
I have a BA Falcon IRS fitted in my latest project ,bit ugly but easy to fit I just had to make some new control arms that go forward that replaced the Falcon ones that dont work all that well and stick out too far ,they usually chop the bushes out as they are a shit design

I had a VT and it scrubbed rear tyres out something terrible.....we ended up put two sets of adjustable mounts in it...n it still scrubbed tires...
Thats why I suggested the VX and later,...because they have a seperate toe link to correct for toe in....where earlier models dont..

Re: VS rear suspension?
Ah okay 666. The Dodge we did was a later model A110(?) and a larger pickup truck. The front mounts on the Commodore IRS were wider than that chassis. As Monte has mentioned, the track width on the IRS may be a bit wide for your '22. I am sure with some hotrodding these obstacles can be worked around666 wrote:turns wrote:Yeah we put one in a Dodge pickup (in the Lone Star thread). I had one a VZ family hack for 10 years too.

Re: VS rear suspension?
Yeah my old VZ used to wear the tyres more on the inside of the rear wheels. I wouldn't describe it as terrible but it did. I didn't have the adjustable bushes but I did lower it 50mm all around.Angry wrote:rx4ord wrote:Or you could do research like I just did.
