Finally finished with the 57 Chevy pickup, and the 52 Hudson Hornet that needed brakes, (for a friend with Parkinsons, and can’t work on his own cars anymore).

I worked today on trimming back the inner fenders to fit around the headers. I still have a little more to cut away, and I will add some material forward of the header, above the upper control arm.

It was nice to get to work on my own car again.

Two photos are an uncut, right side inner fender. There is an indentation and slot, where the upper control arm went through, that doesn’t work with my application. The third photo is the left side, with that part cut out, and a patch clamped in place to fill it. I still need to file the fit a little bit, and fix up a dedicated 220 volt outlet for the tig welder. That won’t happen until next weekend.

Got the 240v plug in, and finished welding the inner fender panel, then trimmed again to fit around shock tower and header. Still a little fine tuning to do, then clean up the welds and finish the edges.

I’m slow, but it’s progress.

Started on the other side. I’m a lot happier with how this side looks, and I will be making the other side look similar.

Can I suggest you buy a few rolls of yellow masking tape and protect all the finished parts while you are still under construction. Amazing how man scratches you end up with no matter how careful you try to be.
I never make the same mistake twice, I do it 5 or 6 times just to be sure !!!

Good idea. I do cover the headers with rags when installing or removing the inner fenders, but I like the tape idea. Thanks.

I got my brake pedal and master cylinders yesterday. These won’t take up a lot of space in the engine compartment. I’ve never cared for the under floor units. No booster required. 10:1 pedal ratio.

I have always loved that pedal setup.

Same here with a dislike for under floor brake set ups. To fill the master cyl without a remote reservoir requires carpet lifting etc, In our 49 F1 pickup I found a late 80,s/early 90,s Toyota Landcruiser pedal box /pedal an ideal fit. Stock Landcruiser booster and 7/8 master cyl stops the pickup we. Running Jag f/e and stock F100 rear drums on a 9" rear. My other dislike for floor pedals was the need to seal the pedal floor .holes from draughts and water. Returning from our honeymoon in Jan 74 from Sydney in our 35 Coupe we encountered rising flood waters on the Hume highway north of Wangaratta, got through in first gear with two jets of water hitting my lap.
