BATTERIES WHOS HAD A GOOD RUN WITH THEM

Post by pilot Dave »

MY S Series battery is on way out and i will need another in next week or so
whats everyone using
'ibought a heap of CENTURY ones but they all died in very short time and couldnt get autobarn to honour a warranty
bought Michelle a new mazda 3 in 2008 the battery lasted 10 years ???wtf that was excellent bloody century 12mths they got shaky
i have optima in 3 of my cars seem to be going ok (4yrs) im happy with them and will replace them as they get tired
i was saving the scrap for my old mate Ernie up rd but he passed away a few mths ago i have seven useless CENTURY ones in the pile  :D

i was buying my optima online thru epay as they were 75bucks cheaper each than local battery place

Super cheap will take the old ones off your hands mate. Or a scrappy.

I sold many batteries. Century, Exide, Yuasa, etc...

Some lasted one day. Luck of the draw. All warranted. Most last on average 4 years or so. Cold days sort out the good ones from the bad. Constant cycling and long trips are good for them. Sitting around stuffs them up (sulphating)

Best one I ever saw was in a Range Rover (Yuasa red top, white case - like a N50 type) she had it for 11 years.

Cheers, Mudgy

I was told by a pal who is a long time auto elec that all battery plates are made overseas ( and you know what that means  )....so it is pot luck if you get a good one. If the pricks who sold them to you before won't warranty them, don't ever go back. If you're thinking of an Odyssey or Optima, there is a cheaper alternative in the same style...found this out after having an Odyssey crap out while we were building Waynes 35 pickup...it never even got used apart from using it to check wiring circuits during the build. Also had the one in my Chevy roadster shit itself around the same time, so maybe they aren't as good as they used to be. The new ones are called Yellow River ( from memory)....look 'em up on Ebay, had mine posted to me at about half the Optima price.

I have had nothing but success with Century getting 8-10 years out of all of them. But the difference is I have a C-TEC charger, MXS-5, installed under the bonnet and plug in as soon as I get home. Short trips kill any batteries!

Century here as well in our three, I think the last one died at about age 9. Sometimes they have cheaper seconds available at the warehouse if you ask, just nicks and scratch's from transit.
If it has tits or wheels, you can expect trouble.

Change the battery in my T at the beginning of last year, hunted around to find the same brand. First installed 2003. 15 years and it often sat for a couple of weeks between runs. Will check out the name tomorrow.

Cheers GT.

For nearly 20 years I have been buying all my batteries at Ariel Batteries located at the very northern end of Smith St, Clifton Hill. A small family business that has been operating from the early 50's or thereabouts and you can tell when you go in :)

Regards :)

I had always had a good run with Century. Had one in my S Series and it used to sit for months without a run, always cranked the ol' girl over, even in balmy Tassie winter conditions. Put 'em in the Tonner, Toranas and 6 and 8 powered Holdens. Always started.

Once you let a battery drop below 10.5 volts, you have damaged it and it wont fully recover. That is the killer of lead acid batteries.
