289 crank which balancer?

Post by steve the ford guy »

Hi fellas, bought a really good 289 crank, rods and pistons and tossing up the idea of using them in an early Mexican 302w block, it came with a 302w crank with marks from a previous botched con rod assembly. Have a set of 302w pistons that came with it but don't have a 289 harmonic balancer, will a 302w balancer work?

Hi Steve yes a 302 will work as long as its a 28 oz imbalance which all before around 1980 are. There are 3 and 4 bolt versions as well as three different timing pointer positions but a lot of aftermarket ones have all three sets of markings. They are at 10 o’clock 11 o’clock and 2 o’clock

Thanks Wayne, what spurred me to buy, is that it was from a 1964 5 bolt Falcon US imported engine and seller was replacing it with a stroker crank, a rare as hens teeth original part, have always loved Windsor engines. Check this one out
